Dear Student Readers and Teachers,
As someone who has worked in English education for a long time, I naturally want this website to serve as an aid for both the student and the teacher in the English classroom. I always wanted a newspaper for the student reader who is not a high school student yet, one filled with articles written in the level of language she would easily understand. I have decided to take on the task myself, and this website is the result. I hope student readers will find lots of new interests – including one in reading – by easily accessing and reading many of our articles. In addition, I will be delighted if student readers and/or teachers find the debate/essay questions at the end of most articles to be useful in their lessons. For those attending high school and up, I encourage you to read original articles. I will separately post links to articles I recommend you read under the post title, “Recommended Articles for High Schoolers and Up.”
You are encouraged to leave comments on our articles, sharing your thoughts with others and thus taking the first true step to contributing to the formation of public opinion. In order to comment, you are asked to provide your name and email address. The main purpose of that requirement is to keep the comments section healthy – when one has provided one’s identifying information, one usually keeps within acceptable boundaries. However, your email address will never be displayed in your comment post.
I try to upload at least two articles every day, that is, ten every week. However, this is a one-man operation, and especially in summer when I get very busy with my private classes, or whenever I get so sick that I have to stay away from work, you may see significant delays. The eternal goal is to have something new ready for the daily visitor.
For those who want a nicely organized collection of the articles uploaded here on a regular basis, I highly recommend subscribing to our biweekly newsletter, Insight Fortnight. It will serve as a good material for improving reading skills for the student and as a good teaching aid for the teacher.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or any messages for me, please email them to me. My email address is editor@thelearnersgazette.com.
